1. Dual-CPU support for Symmetric Multi-Processing(SMP) environments
2. Resolution enhancement module to improve spatial resolution
over small image patches. Good for identification
of targets
¢º Resolution Enhancement
The resolution enhancement module employs non-linear techniques
to improve the spatial resolution of SAR imagery, by factors of
between 1.3 and 2.0, in both the range and azimuth dimensions. Performance
will be dependent on local target-to-noise ratio in the scene. Resolution
enhancement is particularly useful for the detection and classification
of point-like targets, and is important for space-based sensors
where the resolution is only moderate.
3. Ocean currents module to estimate surface radial speed
¢º Ocean Current Estimation
The ocean current estimation algorithms apply very accurate Doppler
refinement procedures to extract surface radial speed measurements.
Once generated, the current information is made available
as registered data overlays on a standard SAR processed image. Information
on the large-scale ocean surface current is of great value to a
number of applications including: offshore drilling, search and
rescue, and global weather prediction.
4. ScanSAR(multi-beam) support for burst mode RADARSAT data
¢º ScanSAR(Multi-beam) Support
The term ¡°ScanSAR¡± refers to an operating mode in which the
radar switches rapidly through a repeating burst pattern, collecting
data from more than one standard beam in order to extend the coverage
in range. Special processing is required to handle this burst mode
data. A typical RADARSAT ScanSAR image has a geographic coverage
of 300 x 300 km or 500 x 500 km, offering tremendous synoptic viewing
advantages over standard beam imagery. The EarthView APP ScanSAR
capability provides a fully flexible, precision, ScanSAR mode which
nicely complements the existing single beam capability and integrates
fully with the existing GUI and viewer. Full resolution, wide dynamic
range images may now be created for use in wide area land and maritime
surveillance applications. Used in combination with the ocean current
estimation package, the wide area coverage greatly enhances the
utility of the ocean current information, since medium scale ocean
features may be viewed in their entirety. Data from the RADARSAT
satellite is supported in the current version, and support for ENVISAT¡¯s
multi-beam modes is currently being developed.

5. ENVISAT(single-beam) support (Multi-Beam support in the next
version)
¢º ENVISAT(Single-Beam) Support
Support for ESA¡¯s next generation radar satellite, ENVISAT,
is now available for single beam image mode processing, and work
is underway to develop an ENVISAT ScanSAR capability, supporting
not only ENVISAT¡¯s wide swath mode, but also its alternating polarization
mode. The processor is capable of reading, writing and displaying
the new ESA data file formats, which are no longer going to be provided
in CEOS format.
