Water Quality Interface
EFDC_Explorer (EE FULL) provides a full featured user interface to the HEM3D water quality features including setting initial conditions, boundary conditions, default kinetic parameters, and sediment diagenesis. Robust post processing tools of the water quality results including 2D plan (by layer or depth averaged) and vertical section plots and animations, submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) analysis, light penetration analysis, habitat analysis, etc. are available.
EFDC Explorer (FULL Version) may be purchased by registered users of this website. Note that EFDC_Explorer (WEB Version) has the water quality interface disabled.
EFDC_Explorer (FULL) Water Quality Pre-processor User Interface
EFDC_Explorer has a wide range of options available to the user for general Water Quality functions. The following graphics show some of these options.
Below the main Water Quality tab is displayed, within which various Global Kinetic options, as well as Water Column Kinetic settings are available to the user.

When using the standard Global Kinetic Options, the following WQ parameters are available for analysis:

Within the Benthic/Nutrients tab, the user may define settings for Benthic Flux, Solar Radiation for Algae and various Nutrient Options.

Benthic Flux Parameters may be modified by clicking on the “Modify Parameters” button, providing the user with the further Sediment Diagenesis options and parameter settings:

Clicking on the “Nitrogen and Phosphorous Constant Parameters” button provides the user with option of setting the values of the following constants and coefficients.

The Algae/WQ Initial Conditions tab allows the user to set various Algae Options, and the Initial Conditions, whether spatially constant or spatially varying.

The Water Quality Boundary Conditions tab allows the user to decide whether to apply time variable Point Source MASS Loading or time variable Point Source Concentrations.
